Shadow & Light is developed and operated by Kooooki Apps.
Shadow & Light is a local-first Android journal app. Your journal content is stored on your device and is not uploaded to or stored on servers operated by us.
Data stored on your device
Shadow & Light may store the following information locally on your device:
your first name
journal entries
mood entries
audio recordings
app settings and preferences
reminder settings
App Lock settings
Journal data is stored in an encrypted local database.
Audio recordings are stored locally in encrypted form.
Microphone
Shadow & Light accesses the microphone only when you choose to record audio for a journal entry.
Audio recordings are not transmitted to Kooooki Apps.
Reminders
If you enable reminders, Shadow & Light schedules local notifications on your device.
Reminder settings are stored locally on your device.
App Lock
App Lock uses Android's system authentication, including device credentials or biometrics where available.
Shadow & Light receives only the authentication result from Android and does not receive or store your fingerprint, face data, or other biometric information.
Backups
You can create an encrypted backup of your Shadow & Light data.
The backup is protected by a backup password that you choose.
You choose where the backup file is stored.
Shadow & Light does not upload backup files to servers operated by Kooooki Apps.
Exported backup files remain under your control and must be deleted separately if you no longer want to keep them.
Without the backup password, the backup cannot be restored.
Data collection and sharing
Shadow & Light currently does not use:
analytics
advertising
tracking
cloud synchronization
artificial intelligence analysis
account sign-in
RevenueCat
Google Sign-In
a developer-operated backend
Your journal entries, mood entries, audio recordings, first name and app settings are not transmitted to Kooooki Apps or shared with third parties by the app.
Support and external links
Shadow & Light may allow you to open our website, this Privacy Policy, or your email application.
These actions are handled by the relevant external browser or email application.
If you contact support, you decide what information you include in your message.
Information that you voluntarily send to us by email may be processed for the purpose of responding to your support request.
Data retention and deletion
App-managed data remains on your device until you delete it, clear the app's data, or uninstall the app.
Journal entries can be deleted within the app. Associated locally stored audio is also removed as part of the journal deletion process where applicable.
Exported backup files are stored separately from the app and remain wherever you chose to save them until you delete them yourself.
Shadow & Light does not create a user account.
Android system cloud backup and system device-transfer backup for Shadow & Light app data are disabled.
